Bengals vs. Broncos Betting Line
Away: Cincinnati Bengals
Home: Denver Broncos
When: Week 2. September 18, 2011. 4:15 pm ET. Televised on CBS.
In week 1, the Cincinnati Bengals were on the road in Cleveland where they beat the Browns 27-17. The Denver Broncos hosted the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football, losing 23-20.
The Broncos are at home again, and another home loss will develop into a deafening “TEBOW” chant from 75,000 screaming fans. In fact, this could be the most interesting storyline in the game. Broncos fans don’t like Kyle Orton or mediocrity, and while Tebow may or may not be the man to get the Broncos over the hump, most agree that Orton is not. While Orton probably does give the Broncos their best chance to win right now, they aren’t likely to go anywhere this season anyway. Why not give Tebow the job and see if he can be a playmaker the NFL?

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Denver Broncos Point Spread
At the BetOnline Sportsbook, the Denver Broncos are favored by -3.5 (-105). The best point spread for the Bengals is at Bodog, at +3.5 (-110).
Several of the best Broncos players are listed as ‘questionable’ for play on Sunday. These include DE Elvis Dumervil, CB Champ Bailey, RB Knowshon Moreno, and WR Brandon Lloyd. WR Demaryius Thomas is out, along with DE Ty Warren. As recent as Friday, Bailey said he was 50/50 to play. Even if some of these guys are playing, time on the field could be limited or at less than 100%. This is bad for the Broncos who need to win this home game to keep up in the AFC West.
On Friday, Bengals QB Andy Dalton was upgraded from questionable to probable to play on Sunday. The Bengals rushing defense did a good job against Cleveland, holding them to 83 yards on 26 attempts. They played a disciplined game, recording just 3 penalties for 22 yards.
The Broncos gave up 190 yards rushing to the Raiders in week 1, and recorded just 38 of their own. Granted, we don’t expect the Bengals defense to be this effective, but a loss of Knowshon Moreno puts even more pressure on QB Kyle Orton. With Lloyd potentially out of play, the pressure goes up yet another notch. Orton has other receivers to throw to, but it always hurts to lose your #1 WR. The Broncos WR Eddie Royal can get the job done, and Eric Decker looks like a playmaker as well.
I see too many potential problems for the Broncos in week 2. While some of their injured players might be on the field on Sunday, how much use will they get out of them? Which ones will be playing and which ones won’t? How will Orton perform under fan pressure if the Bengals get an early lead? How will Willis McGahee perform as the #1 back if Moreno is out? How many penalties will the Broncos rack up this week (they had 10 penalties for 91 yards against the Raiders)? The potential loss of Dumervil could also make a big impact on Von Miller’s effectiveness. Combine that with the potential loss of Champ Bailey and the Broncos defense could have a tough day.
There are too many things up in the air for me to give up 3.5 points on the Broncos. While they may eek out the win, I like getting 3.5 on the Bengals point spread this week. So, I’ll bet on the Bengals +3.5 (-110) at the Bodog Sportsbook.
If you prefer the Broncos and giving up the points, the best odds are at BetOnline, at -3.5 (-105).
Broncos vs. Bengals Money Line
I’m not completely sold the Bengals will win this game, but I see value at +165 on the money line. With so many questions for the Broncos this week, it’ll come down to how they respond to those questions. The Broncos have a tendency to beat themselves, while the Bengals have nothing to lose. I’m taking the Bengals at +165 at BetOnline.
Bengals vs. Broncos Over/Under Betting Odds
The latest over/under for this Bengals vs. Broncos matchup is 40 (-110) on either side. I’m expecting a low scoring game in the range of 21-13 to 24-17. This gives us more potential under scores than overs, so I’m taking the under at BetOnline.
Bet on Cincinnati Bengals vs. Denver Broncos
The Bengals had a solid week 1 win on the road, while the Broncos played a poor game at home. Their are a lot of potential problems for the Broncos this week, playing against a team that has nothing to lose.
I’ll bet on the Bengals point spread, at +3.5 (-110) at Bodog, and the money line of +165 at BetOnline. I’m also taking the under on the total, expecting a less than thrilling offensive game.
