NY Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers Betting Line
The New York Rangers (20-13-1) travel down I-95 to face off with the Philadelphia Flyers (21-7-5) Saturday night at the Spectrum. Puck drops at 7 pm ET and the Flyers are favored at -160. Center and team Captain Chris Drury returned to the Rangers lineup during this Wednesday’s win over the Phoenix Coyotes. The veteran assisted on the Derek Stepan’s game tying goal in the third period demonstrating how important he is to the Broadway Blueshirts success this year. His recovery from the hand injury that kept him out for 29 games keys New York’s level of competitiveness in the Atlantic Division.
The Rangers stand in third place at 20-13-1 while youngsters Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan lead the scoring. Dubinsky, a fourth year, left wing has matured this year with 14 goals and 13 assists. Callahan, another 2004 draft choice, has shown grit plus 10 goals and 13 assists. Drury may not tally as many goals as he once did but his vision and skill as a passer cannot be overlooked. His on-ice and locker room leadership will help New York as well. So far this season, the Rangers are 0-1 against the Flyers but Drury missed that game. The unsettled question for Saturday’s contest is the health of Callahan. Any bets should be made knowing whether he will dress or not. .
Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has been stellar this year with 26 wins and a 2.40 goals against average. The Swede is a game changer and can shut out anyone at anytime.
Arguably the hottest team in hockey right now, the Philadelphia Flyers defeated Montreal in the Bell Centre this week 5-3. Philly has 47 points, is ranked second in scoring offense and fifth in scoring defense. Mike Richards (31 point), Claude Giroux (30 points), Jeff Carter (27 points), Danny Briere (24 points), Ville Leino (23 points) and Scott Hartnell (22 points) define balanced scoring. The Flyers have three lines that can score plus Chris Pronger on defense. The question mark before the NHL’s first face-off was goaltending and Sergei Bobrovsky plus Brian Boucher have been solid with goals against averages of 2.32 or less.
The Flyers are just too much right now for the Rangers or most any team. Saturday night; in Philadelphia; a division rival – it could be an old fashioned donnybrook just like the days of Bobby Clark and the Broad Street Bullies. Look for the Flyers by two or more goals.
