Dallas Stars @ Chicago Blackhawks Game Preview
The Chicago Blackhawks defense has struggled in recent games. The Vancouver Canucks took them down 3-0 on Friday, but Chicago came back to beat Calgary 4-2 on Sunday.
Vancouver rode the outstanding goaltending of Roberto Luongo to the win, scoring three goals on just 18 shots. On Sunday, the Blackhawks lost forward Patrick Kane to what appears to be a knee injury. Kane was second on the team, with 27 points o 11 goals and 16 assists. This injury will certainly make an impact on the team. A video of the injury can be viewed below.
Patrick Sharp leads the team with 29 points while center Jonathan Toews has been hot of late adding 22 points to date. Winger Marion Hossa is still out with an injury suffered in practice last week. Defenseman Duncan Campbell leads the blueliners with a +10 plus/minus ratio.
Dallas too has one of the worst penalty kills in the league. Their defense ranks in the top ten overall in goals allowed and when goaltender Andrew Raycroft is hot they can control their own destiny. Center Brad Richards is already over the 30 point plateau and look for him to lead most of the best attacks. The Stars do a nice job cycling down low with Loui Eriksson and James Neal key finishers. The pair have ten goals each while Brendan Morrow has added nine more.
Enforcer Steve Ott gives Dallas a solid blueline presence with partner Stephane Robidas, who has great hands and can score (witness his OT game winner over the Minnesota Wild). Kari Lehtonen has been the starter between the pipes for the majority of the season, but look for Raycroft to get the nod on Wednesday. He has a great history against the Blackhawks and has been playing well although in limited action.
This game is a special teams nightmare for both clubs and look for a wide open offense. Take the over if the figure is five goals as this has all the makings of a 5-4 overtime donnybrook.
In the end, the Blackhawks should outshoot the Stars. A smart bet is Chicago by one, but we’ll see what the odds show later tonight. When the lines have been posted, we’ll update this post with more information.
