Super Bowl 46 Moneyline Prediction
Although the Patriots are favored in Super Bowl 46, I don’t think they should be. This looks like a pick’em game to me, so I like the value we’re getting on the Giants money line.
Super Bowl 46 is being played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, where fans hate the Patriots. However, the Super Bowl attracts attendants from all over the country, so there will be plenty of fans rooting for both teams. On a neutral field, how are the New England Patriots 2.5 – 3 point favorites?
The reason is because the bookmakers are shading the lines to attract even betting on each side. The Patriots offense is flashy and attractive to casual bettors, so to create more betting action on the Giants, bettors have to be given extra incentive. The key to making the most profit on Super Bowl money line bets is timing. Depending on which side you’re betting should determine when you place a money line bet. For example, big favorites tend to get most of the public betting, regardless of the money line. The Green Bay Packers have one of the best passing attacks in the NFL with Aaron Rodgers leading the team. Pittsburgh hasn’t struggled in many categories this year, but they have struggled in the secondary, which will make it tough against the Packers who use the entire field.
The Pittsburgh Steelers secondary wasn’t tested much in the 2010 – 2011 regular season. During the regular season they lost to the Saints and Patriots, both great passing teams. Once again, they’re going to be tested against the Packers.
These teams played last year in a back & forth game where the Steelers squeaked out a 37-36 win. Both Rodgers and Roethlisberger had amazing games, and I expect more of the same during the 2011 Super Bowl.
Green Bay has a great secondary, and I don’t expect Roethlisberger to have a game like he did last season. The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t have much of a running game either, so the Packers secondary can focus on stopping the WR’s and not worry as much about the run. Another advantage for the Packers is that the game is being played indoors at Cowboys Stadium. Pittsburgh is used to playing on real grass and that won’t be the case in Super Bowl XLV, potentially causing problems for the Steelers.
