The 2012 Wild Card round is coming this weekend, January 7 & 8, 2012. For the AFC, it’s the Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans on Saturday (4:30 pm ET on NBC), then the Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos on Sunday (4:30 pm ET on CBS).

The New York Jets (11-5) finished 2nd in the AFC East this season behind the New England Patriots and won a Wild Card spot in the 2011 playoffs. The Indianapolis Colts (10-6) won the AFC South this season by winning their last four games. Both teams have had their ups and downs this year and it should be interesting to see how this one plays out. Although the Jets have the better record, the game will be played in Indianapolis this Saturday at 8PM EST.

2011 AFC Wild Card – Jets at Colts Game Analysis
The Indianapolis Colts haven’t looked good for most of the 2010-2011 NFL season, but they were able to grab a Wild Card birth thanks to Peyton Manning. The Colts are averaging an NFL best 288.1 passing yards per game, mainly because of Manning who set an NFL record in week 17 for the most regular season completions (450). However, due to injuries, Indy hasn’t been running the ball well this season, averaging just 92.7 rushing yards per game (29th in league). Because of their great passing game, they rank 4th in the NFL with an average of 27.2 points per game.
The New York Jets don’t have as potent of an offense as the Colts do, but they’ve held their own this season. The team’s offense lives by the running game, averaging 148.8 rushing yards per game (4th in NFL). On paper, the Jets offense has improved in the past couple of weeks, scoring 38 against the Bills and 34 against the Bears. With that said, Mark Sanchez only played 9 downs against the Bills, and they lost to the Bears. They did beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh in week 15 however, a huge win for the Jets.
The Jets averaged 22.9 points per game during the regular season, good for 13th in the NFL. The Jets will be running the ball, no doubt about that, but I also expect to see Sanchez slang it a bit, looking to get more points on the board than usual. While every game is about defense, Manning will find his opportunities and the Jets might feel forced to go for a few big plays. If Sanchez and the Jets don’t turn the ball over, keep Manning off the field with a consistent running game, and find open receivers now & then, the Jets will make it tough on the Colts.
There’s no question that the Jets have the stronger defense. The Jets only give up an average of 19 points per game (6th in league), 200.6 passing yards per game (6th in league) and 90.9 rushing yards per game (3rd in league). The Colts defense has given up an average of 24.2 points per game (23rd in league), 214.6 passing yards per game (13th in league) and 127 rushing yards per game (25th in league).
The Jets are +9 in turnovers this year, and the Colts are -4. The Jets defense will be looking to create turnovers and keep the ball out of Peyton Manning’s hands.

Peyton Manning vs Jets Secondary
Peyton Manning is going to have his hands full this Saturday when he takes on the New York Jets and their tough secondary. Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie are both listed as questionable, but expect both of them to start.
Manning threw 17 INT’s during the regular season, but 11 of them came in a 3 game stretch from weeks 11-13. In the final four games of the season, he was only picked twice, and many of his INT’s were tipped balls by his receivers. His receivers are holding onto the ball better now, and Peyton is back on track.
The Jets will blitz and put pressure on Manning, but the Jets defense only picked 12 passes in the 2010 regular season (25th in the NFL). The Jets passing defense does give up touchdowns (24), and the Manning will definitely get his chances.
The Colts will have a much harder time running the ball than passing. The Jets rushing defense (3rd in the NFL) is outstanding, and the Colts running game is awful (29th in the league). The Colts have no choice but to put the ball in the air, and the Jets defense should be prepared for this.
New York Jets Rushing vs Indianapolis Colts Rush Defense
This match-up could easily decide the game. If the Jets can gain anywhere near their season average of 148.4 rushing yards, they should be in the game right down to the wire. LaDainian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene were rested in week 17, so both of them will be fresh against the Colts this Saturday. With the Jets averaging 4.4 yards per carry on 33.4 attempts per game, and the Colts giving up an average of 127 rushing yards per game, this is a huge advantage for the Jets. The Jets should have the ball for 2-3 minutes longer than the Colts, enough time to keep the ball out of Manning’s hands for 1-2 possessions.
New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts Free Prediction
I’m expecting the Jets to win outright, so I’m taking the Jets on the road at +2.5 (-105) at Sportsbook.com. I expect the public to ride the favored Colts, but I don’t see it. After last years disappointment, the Jets want revenge on the Colts, and this could play a big role for firing up the Jets defense. The Jets have held their own on the road this season with a 6-2 record, so it won’t surprise me if the Jets controlled this game from start to finish.
I’m also taking the under, because I think the Jets D is going to step it up and hold the Colts to 17-20 points. I’m expecting a close game, with the Jets coming out on top in the 23-20 area.
New York Jets & Indianapolis Colts – Road to the 2011 AFC Wild Card
The New York Jets didn’t need to win in week 17, but they came out strong and put a beating on the Bills 38-7. Mark Sanchez played 9 downs with no passing attempts while Mark Brunell handled the QB position for most of the day. Rookie runningback Joe McKnight had a huge game against the Bills, rushing for 158 yards on 32 attempts (4.9 avg).
The Indianapolis Colts didn’t have the luxury of sitting anyone in week 17 because they were in a must-win situation against the Titans. Peyton Manning and the Colts managed to pull out a 23-20 victory this week, but it wasn’t very convincing. Adam Vinatieri kicked a field goal with the game clock running out in the 4th quarter to secure the Colts spot in the 2011 NFL Playoffs.
Indianapolis had a rough go of the 2011 season, dealing with key injuries and a rare, 3-game slump by QB Peyton Manning. In the end, they showed a lot of heart winning the last four games of the regular season to secure a Wild Card birth. In those four games, Indianapolis beat the Titans twice, Raiders, and Jaguars before taking the AFC South title.
These two teams met last year in the AFC Championship and the Colts took care of business, winning the game 30-17. Mark Sanchez went 17 of 30 in the game for 257 yards, 2 TD’s and 1 INT while Manning completed 26 of 39 passes for 377 yards and 3 TD’s. The Colts won the rushing game as well, with Joseph Addai gaining 81 yards on the ground. If Addai can put another 80 yards down on Saturday, the Colts chances are going to become a lot better.
