Bovada Poker Review

The Bovada Poker lobby is slightly different from the former Bodog lobby. It’s simpler to use in some ways, but lacking a few options. For example, there is no way to see the sit & go tables that are running (only registering), which means it’s impossible to find your friends that might be playing. I imagine they’ll add the missing options back over time, and we’ll update this review if/when they do. Bodog was always one of our favorite online poker websites, and considering it was operated by the same company that is operating Bovada Poker, it only makes sense that these changes will be made.

Traffic at the site appears to be about the same as before, and with all of the publicity this site is getting on the big poker forums, the traffic is probably picking up. Also, they’ve added a huge bonus to attract new players. The bonus is 100% up to $1000, with very reasonable clearing requirements. See below for more details about the bonus.

As changes are made to the new site, we’ll continue to update this Bovada Poker review with all of the details.

Bovada Poker Tournaments

Although Bovada Poker runs more Texas Hold’em tournaments than anything else, Omaha, Stud, and Horse tournaments can be found as well. All of these games can be found in single or multi-table sit & go format, and in larger tournaments as well. All of the most popular types of tournaments are held in regular speed, turbo, and super turbo formats. We’re hoping that Bovada begins to promote more non-Hold’em tournaments as they move forward and build on their current player base.

In the past, the site was busiest during popular US hours. Now that Bodog has broken off ties with the US market, and since these sites play on the same network, it stands to reason that traffic should stay about the same (or increase slightly) during US hours, and increase during European hours. Bovada is signing up a lot of new US players, while Bodog is focusing heavier on non-US traffic. This should provide better traffic around the clock.

Sit & Go Tournaments

Like every online poker site, Bovada Poker offers plenty of sit & go tournaments running 24/7. They have the standard 9-player, single table SNG tournaments where the top 3 players get paid, along with some other ones as well.

Another popular type of sit & go tournament they offer are called ‘Beginner Tournaments’ where the top 4 of a 9-player table make the money. These SNG’s start for as little as $4 +.40 and go up to $32 + 3.

Single table sit & go tournaments start for as little as $1 + .10 and go up to $200 + 15. Bovada Poker also offers points sit & go tournaments. Points tournaments pay out in more points (which can be traded for cash) or free seats into real money tournaments.

Multi-Table Tournaments

All of the same types of single table tournaments are available in multi-table format as well. Multi-table sit & go tournaments are offered in 27 or 45 player formats, in various blind structures. They’re also available in beginner formats where more players make the money.

Large, Guaranteed Tournaments

Satellite tournaments are offered for their biggest weekly tournaments, starting for as little as $1. This includes their $100,000 guaranteed tournament held every Sunday.

There are other daily & weekly tournaments with guaranteed prize pools of $500 – $15,000. Buy-ins range from $2 + .20 up to $150 + 12.

Bovada Poker Cash Games

Like every online poker site, Texas Hold’em cash games are the most popular. Hold’em cash games start at $.02/.05 and are busy up to $2/4 NL and $4/8 FL. Bigger games can be found as well, but mostly during peak hours. Heads-up Texas Hold’em cash games are usually busy up to $2/4.

The other cash games that are offered at Bovada Poker include Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud and 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo. Games up to $2/4 get a fair amount of traffic, but a few higher games can be found during peak hours.

Bovada doesn’t run any Bad Beat Jackpots, so there’s no extra rake being taken from any of their cash game pots.

Bovada Poker Bonus & Promo Code

Bovada is currently offering a huge bonus for new players. The bonus is 100% up to $1000, with very reasonable clearing requirements. To get the Bovada Poker bonus, enter promo code 1602945 during the deposit process, then start playing.

Bonus points are earned during real money cash games and tournaments that have an entry fee. The more you play, and the higher stakes you play, the faster you earn bonus points.

Bovada.lv Real Money Poker Site

Of course Bovada Poker offers free games like any other poker site, but this is also one of the fishiest online poker sites for low-medium stakes real money players. Are large percentage of their players are young men who play with more ego than brains. This means they shove weak, call too often, and tilt very easily. Smart poker players can take advantage of this, using patience and wit to separate players from the bankrolls.

Some of the higher stakes games can be quite stiff, with smart, experienced players. For the most part, these are guys who learned to beat the lower stakes games and have moved up. If you’re looking for looser high stakes games, try one of the bigger poker sites instead.
