Celtics vs Knicks NBA Game Preview

The play of center Amare Stoudamire has carried New York to a 16-9 record and to a place of respect in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks trail Boston by only four games and a win Wednesday might shake some of the doubters off the Knicks backs.

Stoudamire is averaging 26.9 points a game plus over 9 boards. The point guard play from Raymond Felton has been spectacular at times and even more importantly of late: consistent. He is dishing out 8.7 assists a game and grabbing two steals a contest as well. Wilson Chandler (17.3) and Danilo Gallinari (15.3) are also threats.

Ok, did you read those names and say; “Who?” Although they’re not NBA household names, they do look like they’re for real. New York has won its last eight games and is leading the league in points per game at 108.9. The Knicks, a franchise built on defense is the league’s highest scoring club. No wonder the Garden has seen fewer empty seats this season than it did over the past five years.

Well, don’t expect to find a seat Wednesday night. Boston brings the league’s best record at 19-4 and a 10-game winning streak of its own. Guard Ray Allen has had the hot hand of late averaging over 22+ in his last three games. But don’t count our Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Shaquille O’Neal as the guys inside control the flow for the Celtics. Boston owns the league’s best defense surrendering 91.0 points a game and they have the potential to score over the century mark on a whim. In fact, the Green have scored 100 or more six times in their recent winning streak.

Point guard Rajon Rondo will be the focal point for Boston and for New York. His play will determine the outcome as if he can drive and gain the paint, Boston can then dominate the low block with its size offensively. The Knicks need to get hot and stay hot from the outside to match Boston’s down low presence. Big Baby Glen Davis coming off the bench for Boston will get his points unless New York can neutralize his quick release with pressure defense.

Boston is a good road team but even on a Wednesday night, the Garden will be stoked for their New York Knickerbockers. Take the home team and the points. Knicks by five.
