Creighton Bluejays vs. Alabama Crimson Tide Prediction
The Creighton Bluejays (28-5) won the MVC conference tournament in OT against Illinois State last week and have earned a spot in the big dance. The Alabama Crimson Tide (21-11) didn’t have the best record, but they had an SOS Rank of 30 and will be taking on the Bluejays in the 2nd round of the tournament.
Alabama is one of the best defensive teams in the country and will cause fits for Creighton. The Crimson Tide only average 64.9 PPG (245th overall), but they make up for it by limiting their opponents to only 58.1 PPG. Creighton is one of the highest scoring teams in the nation with an average of 80 PPG (6th overall), but they give up 69.5 PPG.
The Bluejays SOS Rank was only 98 this season and they didn’t test themselves that much. The team hasn’t played any ranked opponents this year and they may be a bit outmatched on Friday. Two big forwards lead the attack for Alabama and both of them will need to get hot on Friday.
JaMychal Green averages 14 PPG and 7.4 RPG while Tony Mitchell averages 13.1 PPG and 7 RPG for Alabama. Creighton doesn’t shoot great from behind the line and the Bluejays are led by one big man. Doug McDermott averages 23.2 PPG and 8.2 RPG, but I’m betting that Bama’s two big men will be able to outmatch Creighton’s single big man.
Alabama is only a small -1.5 point favorite and I like them on the point spread. I can’t see this game being decided by one point for either team, so the moneyline on the Crimson Tide doesn’t have value. Creighton can put up points, but Alabama will need to defend if they want to win this game.
Right now, the Creighton vs. Alabama over/under is 133 at BetOnline, and 132 at TopBet. I think this game will fall under the total of 133 by a couple of baskets, so I’m taking the under.
