Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants Analysis & Prediction
Heading into week 11 of the 2011 NFL season the NY Giants sit atop the NFC East, trying to hold off the surging Cowboys (5-4). Playing at home against the Eagles this week, the Giants need to look at this as a must-win game. The Cowboys have a game they should win against the Redskins, and a Giants loss could create problems for them down the road. A Cowboys win would make them 6-4 overall, 2-1 in the NFC East, and 5-2 in the conference. A Giants loss would also make them 6-4, but they’d be 1-2 in the NFC East and 3-4 in the conference.
The Eagles woes have been well publicized this season, and the Dream Team is still in REM sleep, coming off back-to-back losses against the Bears and Cardinals respectively. To make matters worse, Michael Vick has been declared out for Sunday’s matchup, along with WR Jeremy Maclin, the Eagles leading wide receiver. The Eagles have announced that Vince Young will be their starting QB, which should be interesting to say the least. Young’s only pass this year was intercepted, so rust is likely to be an issue.
The Philly passing defense is susceptible to giving up big plays and their rushing defense has given up 120 yards per game. The Giants rushing game has been awful this year, only generating 89.2 YPG. However, the Giants shouldn’t need a lot from their RB’s – just enough to help Manning be effective. The Giants RB’s have only coughed up the ball twice all season, making them more effective than their lowly yardage stats. More than anything, Manning just needs his RB’s to give him the ball back after every play, giving his NFL 5th-best passing offense the chance to get the job done.
Eli Manning has had a very solid season, with 17 TD’s and only 8 INT’s. Vince Young is making his first start of the season, and his first pass will be just his second of the year. If you listen closely, you might hear creaking noises from his right shoulder bones. While Young has the ability to create 1st downs with his feet, his reading abilities for passing the ball should be rusty. I don’t expect much offense from the Eagles this week, especially with Vick and Maclin sitting out.
New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles Point Spread
I’m expecting Eli Manning and the New York Giants to step it up this week. I like the Giants point spread of -6 (-115) at BetOnline, and I predict they’ll easily cover that spread. If they play bad, they could still win this game by a touchdown.
If you’re picking the Eagles, the BetOnline sportsbook has them at +6 (-105), or get an extra point for -130 at Bodog. Once again, I don’t see how the Eagles can cover the spread unless the Giants have a bad day. I don’t expect much from Vince Young on his first start of the season, and +6 or +7 points doesn’t look like enough to me.

Eagles vs. Giants Money Line
At the time of this writing, the Giants money line is -260 at BetOnline. Playing at home, against an Eagles team without their starting QB and leading receiver, I like this play. The Giants will have to stink it up to lose this game, at a time of the season when motivation should be at a peak. I don’t see Vince Young being able to pull off the upset, so I’m taking the Giants -260 on the money line at BetOnline.
If you’re still drinking the Eagles Kool-Aid (heavily spiked), you can get them on the money line at +220 at BetOnline.
In homage to Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic on the Mike & Mike Show on ESPN, I’m making this my ‘Stone Cold Lead Pipe Lock’ for week 11. Eat my shorts Greeny.
Giants vs. Eagles Total (Over/Under) Betting Odds
With Vince Young making his first start of the 2011 season, it’s difficult to predict how effective he’ll be. I’m expecting the Giants to put a lot of pressure on him, and he could be scrambling all day. However, he can be effective when he scrambles, so we’ll have to see if he can get in the end-zone.
I’m expecting a Giants win in the range of 21-13 to 30-17, giving us totals from 34 to 47. The over/under on this game is 45.5 (-110) at Bodog, so I’ll be taking the under. Young is the wild card in this game, but I’m hoping his lack of playing time keeps him out of the end zone.
Bet on Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants
As mentioned above, I’ve already bet on the Giants point spread, at -6 (-115) at BetOnline. I’ve also bet on the Giants money line, at -260 at BetOnline. With Vince Young taking over for injured Michael Vick, I think the Giants will be able to contain the Eagles offense. So, I’m taking the under, at 45.5 (-110) at Bodog.
