Rams vs. Eagles Game Analysis & Prediction
The Philadelphia Eagles (10-6 last season) and St. Louis Rams (7-9 last season) will meet at the Edward Jones Dome in week 1 of the 2011 – 2012 NFL season, and many bettors have this game circled on their calendars. The Eagles added tons of talented free agents this off-season including Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jason Babin, Cullen Jenkins, Vince Young and Ronnie Brown. The Eagles were one of the worst defenses against the pass last season, but that’s bound to change this year with the new additions.
The St. Louis Rams surprised a lot of NFL fans last season, as they were 1-game away from making the playoffs after going 1-15 the prior season. Sam Bradford silenced his critics and I think he’s going to have a great season in 2011-2012. Mike Sims-Walker and Greg Salas should help the Rams move the ball through the air more this year, which should also help Steven Jackson. I like the Rams this season, but the Eagles have a lot to prove after all their spending, and I think they start out hot.
Philadelphia Eagles vs. St. Louis Rams Point Spread
At the BetOnline Sportsbook, the Philadelphia Eagles are favored by 4.5 points (-110) right now. As the point spread changes closer to game time, we’ll update this post with our latest predictions based on the spread.
Philadelphia has arguably the most explosive offense in the NFL this season, with Michael Vick leading the charge. LeSean McCoy had a huge season last year and with the addition of Ronnie Brown, McCoy should be able to stay fresh. Vick is a big injury concern, but of course nobody expects him to get injured during the 1st week of the season. Even if Vick does go down, the Eagles signed Vince Young to back him up.
St. Louis is in the weakest division in the NFL, and I’m high on them winning the NFC West. However, I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up with the high flying offense of the Eagles in week 1. If Philadelphia didn’t improve their defense as much as they did this game would be a lot closer, but I think the Rams will have trouble moving the ball through the air against a couple of the best cornerbacks in the league.
I prefer betting on the point spread in this game versus the money line. I see the Eagles winning this by 6+, so I’m betting on the Philadelphia Eagles at -4.5 -110 at BetOnline.com.
Rams vs. Eagles Money Line
The Philadelphia Eagles are -240 favorites on the money line right now, while the St. Louis Rams are +200. If you’re worried about the game being close you could bet on the Eagles at -240 and not have to worry about the point spread, but -240 isn’t attractive to me. You’d be better off buying the spread down to -3 rather than betting the money line at -240.
If you prefer the Rams for the outright win at home, +200 on the money line might be as good as we’ll see. Lines often move in favor of the home team as game time approaches, but this one is hard to tell. There are a lot of casual bettors jumping on the Eagles bandwagon this year, so we’ll keep an eye on the money line movement for this game. When we get closer to the start of the game, we’ll update this page with the latest money line odds and our picks at that time.
Eagles vs. Rams Total (Over/Under) Betting Odds
The Eagles vs. Rams over/under is currently at 43.5 (-110) at the BetOnline Sportsbook. I’m not going to be betting on the over/under in this one, as I want to see how the Eagles offense looks. I don’t think the Rams will put up too many points, so my lean on the game would be to bet on the under 43.5 points at -110.
Defenses generally perform better in week 1 than offenses, but it’s difficult to predict how Vick and Bradford will perform in week 1. We expect more from Vick than Bradford in this game, but we’ll sit on the sidelines on this bet. If you want to bet on the Eagles vs Rams over/under, BetOnline is the best option for US bettors.
Bet on Philadelphia Eagles vs. St. Louis Rams
As I mentioned above, I’m going to bet on the Philadelphia Eagles on the point spread, over the Rams by -4.5 points. I think the Eagles easily win this game by two field goals or a touchdown, and this is one of my favorite picks in week 1. If you bet money line parlays, the Eagles at -240 is a good addition to add value to a week 1 parlay.
