On Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012 will be the NFC Conference Championship game between the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. The game will be televised on FOX at 6:30pm ET. This Giants – 49ers matchup is going to draw massive betting action for the spread and over/under, and tons of prop bets will be available as well.
During the regular season, the NY Giants went 9-7 overall and 5-3 on the road. However, their record doesn’t tell us much because the team has been improving for the last several weeks. The Giants are hot right now, and that’s where you want to be during the playoffs.
The San Francisco 49ers finished the regular season 13-3, and 7-1 at home. They ranked #2 in the NFL allowing just 14.3 points per game. Their rushing defense also ranked #1 in the NFL, giving up a meager 77.3 yards per game.

My Giants – 49ers prediction is for the Niners to cover the 2 point spread. As the game gets closer, we could see the spread move to 3 points (but of course I could be wrong). If you agree with that and want to bet on the 49ers point spread, get your bets in now while you can get them -2.

I think the San Francisco 49ers will be moving on to the 2012 Super Bowl after a close win against the New York Giants. Here’s the latest 49ers – Giants money line at the time this article is being written:

This game is close enough for me that the difference comes down to home field advantage. If this game were being played in New York, I’d be picking the Giants to win it. Since it’s in San Francisco, they’re getting the nod in this one. At -130, I think we’ve got some decent value here. I won’t be surprised if the 49ers money line is closer to -150 by game time, so I’m getting my bet in now.
We can get +110 on the Giants money line, but that’s a tough bet to make on the road, especially against this Niners defense. I’m not saying the Giants can’t win this because they certainly can. However, I don’t see value at +110.
New York Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers Prediction
Everybody knows about the 49ers defense, but the Giants appear to be having another magical season like they did a few years ago when they won the Super Bowl. Eli Manning continues to improve, and a win here would help to solidify his name among the elite NFL quarterbacks.
The San Francisco 49ers went 7-1 at home this year, mostly due to their dominant defense. I don’t expect the Niners to have any major letdowns on defense, but the Giants offense should perform better than most of the 49ers opponents this year.
After hours of going over the stats, player matchups, and likely strategies, this is a tough game to predict – mainly due to the Giants. If their defense plays as well as they have the last few weeks, they have a chance to beat anyone. Like the Giants – 49ers point spread is reflecting, I expect this to be a close game. However, just a couple of big plays (which both teams are capable of) on either side could make this a 2 TD game.
The NY Giants should have the edge offensively, but a single 3 & out could be the difference between a win or a loss. Likewise, a single 3rd down conversion could have the same result.
In the end, I don’t think I can bet against the SF 49ers at home in this one. The crowd in San Francisco is going to be crazy, and the twelfth man will have an impact.
My prediction for the San Francisco 49ers is that they’ll put up 20-24 points. For the NY Giants, I’m going with 17-21. Essentially, I have the 49ers winning by three points, so I’m taking them at -2 (-110) at the BetOnline Sportsbook.
I also like the 49ers money line of -130. At -130, I don’t think we’re giving up too much for the home field advantage we’re gaining.
