No one was more surprised when Kevin Garnett stepped out from a pick to steal the ball and the win from Orlando Monday night than Celtics head coach Doc Rivers. Rivers wasn’t 100% sure his star forward would play until moments before game time but Garnett looked like he hadn’t missed a day. He scored 19 points and had eight rebounds to key the victory.
Rajon Rondo has been superb at point guard and seems to be getting better and healthier every game. Paul Pierce continues to lead Boston scoring 19 points per game, and Ray Allen isn’t far behind at 17.5 a contest. Allen is on a pace to break former Indiana Pacer Reggie Miller’s season-record for most three-pointers in a year. Shaquille O’Neal has been a big addition with 10 points and 5.2 boards a game while Jermaine O’Neal has been out with an injury. “Big Baby” Glenn Davis averages 12.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Celtics.

Utah is one of the best passing teams in the league ranking second in assists per game. The Jazz big scorers are Deron Williams, Paul Milsap and Al Jefferson offering 22.1, 17.5 and 16.8 points per game respectively. Small forwards CJ Miles and Andrei Kirilenko combine for 23.3 points a game with Kirilenko starting and Miles playing the sixth man role. Kirilenko is the better rebounder and passer but Miles puts up 12 points per game in only 23 minutes and is strong defensively. Point guard Williams averages nearly 10 assists and four rebounds per game and is a handful on the court. Rondo will have one of his best challenges of the season on Friday night.
Utah is 12-7 for the year on the road, and in the middle of a tough road stretch that started with a loss on Monday in Washington, ending next Tuesday against the Los Angeles Lakers. This is the first meeting between the Jazz and Celtics in the 2010 – 2011 NBA season.
