Heading into week 15 of the 2011 – 2012 NFL season, the Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders sit in second place in their respective divisions. Both are looking for a spot in the playoffs, and both desperately need the win. If the regular season was over now, the Lions would be the final Wild Card in the NFC, while the Raiders would be watching from home. The Raiders are still in the hunt, but they’ll need this win over the Lions to have a realistic shot at the playoffs.

Lions Versus Raiders Analysis & Prediction
Ndamukong Suh will make his return for the Lions, but the Raiders will still be without WR Jacoby Ford and RB Darren McFadden. WR Denarius Moore and safety Michael Huff are listed as questionable. After suffering a foot injury in week 15 against the Packers, Raiders WR Chaz Schilens expects to be ready on Sunday as well. The Raiders have had a tough time since losing McFadden, but RB Michael Bush is likely to have a better game against the Lions than he did against the Packers in week 14. With many of the Raiders offensive weapons either out or hurting, the Lions defense will be looking for a big day.
Turnovers could be the difference in this game, and the Raiders can’t afford to lose this battle. Carson Palmer will need to make smart decisions, and the Raiders RB’s will have to squeeze hard. Although the Raiders have only fumbled 6 times this year, the Lions defense has caused 11 fumbles. The Lions are +11 in takeaways/giveaways this year, and will look to strip the ball every chance they get.
Discipline could also play an important role in this game. The Raiders lead the NFL in penalties, and the Lions aren’t much better. If either team can clean it up for this game, it could translate into points on the board.
Detroit Lions vs. Oakland Raiders Point Spread
At the time of this writing, the Detroit Lions point spread is -1 (-110) at BetOnline and JustBet. The Oakland Raiders point spread is +1 (-110) at both books as well.
The Raiders need some of their weapons back. Without Ford & McFadden, the other Raiders WR’s and RB’s will need to forget about their own nagging injuries and step it up big against the Lions defense. In the end, I see the Lions winning a close one on the road, so I’m betting on the Lions -1 (-110) at BetOnline.

Lions vs. Raiders Over/Under Betting Odds
The Lions vs. Raiders over/under is 47.5 (-110) on either side at BetOnline and JustBet.
I’m expecting a low scoring game, in the range of 21-17 to 24-21. With the over/under at 47.5, I’m taking the under in this Raiders/Lions matchup.
Oakland Raiders / Detroit Lions Prop Bets
At the time of this writing, the only prop bet available for this game is a player prop for Ndamukong Suh. The prop is at BetOnline, asking if Suh will record a personal foul penalty. By game time, dozens of game, team, & player prop bets will be available.
BetOnline and Bovada (the new Bodog site for US customers) should have the best selection of prop bets or this game, usually getting posted a couple hours before game time. This game is not on the calendar for live betting at Bovada like we hoped it would be. Instead, Bovada is offering live betting for the Redskins vs. Giants, Patriots vs. Broncos, and the Sunday Night Football game between the Ravens and Chargers.
