Spurs vs Magic NBA Game Preview
Tim Duncan has rejuvenated the San Antonio Spurs who, at 25-3 are by far the best team in the NBA. It ranks among the 11 best starts of all-time in the NBA. The 13 year vet is averaging 14.1 points and 9.7 rebounds per game but the key difference so far this season has been a healthy Manu Ginobili. Ginobili is enjoying an All-Star season averaging 19.7 points per game plus 3.6 rebounds. His passing is exceptional, noted by his career high assist average of 4.9 assists per game.
Richard Jefferson is contributing, scoring nearly 17 points a game. The Spurs did well to beat Denver on Tuesday overcoming a ten point fourth quarter deficit. Ginobili was the star with 22 points, four rebounds and six assists. Matt Bonner had 13 points while Tony Parker had 11 points. Spurs games are generally played in the 100+ points category so watch for this one to be fast paced and high scoring. The Spurs offense has been terrific the last two games despite the fact they really rely on Duncan and Ginobilli.
Orlando shuffled their line-up with the blockbuster trade bringing over Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu. Coach Stan Van Gundy has only had one practice with his new team but the Magic know they can’t keep dropping games if they want to stay close in the Eastern race. The trade will help the Magic but the next few games are going to be a bit awkward until everyone learns to work together. With only two wins in their last ten games, Orlando is the desperate team on the floor. Dwight Howard leads a top five defense with 12 boards and 2 blocks every game. Jameer Nelson’s work on the point this year has been strong, averaging 7.1 assists and 14.9 PPG.
Thursday night, watch for the Spurs to get out quickly and Orlando could struggle to keep pace. The third quarter will be a key period as the Magic will need to set up their comeback bid by cutting down the Spurs lead. In an upset, Orlando beats San Antonio by three.
