Seahawks vs Bears Betting Line & Point Spread
The Seattle Seahawks surprised everyone last week when they beat the New Orleans Saints 41-36 in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs. Not many people expect them to win this week either, going against the Chicago Bears. Chicago won the NFC North this season with an 11-5 record and secured a 1st round bye in the playoffs. The game will be played this Sunday at 1pm EST, and the Bears have home field advantage playing at Soldier Field.

Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears Analysis
These two offenses are a lot closer than most casual fans realize. Chicago scored an average of 20.9 PPG this season (21st in the NFL), gained 188.4 passing YPG (28th) and 101 rushing YPG (22nd). Seattle wasn’t that far behind in PPG, as they averaged 19.4 PPG (23rd in the NFL), gained 208.8 passing YPG (19th) and 89 rushing YPG (31st). The offensive stats are very close as you can see, but that isn’t the case when you look at the defensive stats.
Seattle had one of the worst defenses in the 2010 – 2011 NFL regular season, evident last week against the Saints. During the regular season, the Seahawks gave up an average of 249.6 passing YPG (27th in the NFL), 118.9 rushing YPG (21st) and allowed an average of 25.4 PPG (25th). Last week the Seahawks defense gave up 2 passing TD’s and 2 rushing TD’s, which they won’t be able to do this week.
Chicago had one of the best defensive squads in the NFL this season although they did have some struggles. Throughout the regular season they allowed an average of 17.9 PPG (4th in the NFL), 224.2 passing YPG (20th) and 90.1 rushing YPG (2nd). As you can see, the Bears had some problems stopping the pass this season, which is an area the Seahawks offense is going to need to focus on. Lynch had a great game last week against the Saints, but there’s a slim chance of him repeating that performance against the stingy Bears rushing defense.
There isn’t much of an advantage when you look at the two offenses, but the Bears should be able to be more efficient based on the two defenses. The Bears have some problems stopping the pass and Hasselbeck might be able to find openings. Both teams were intercepted quite a bit this season, and if either QB throws up a bomb or two this weekend it could be enough to decide the game.
Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears Key Match-Ups
Marshawn Lynch / Justin Forsett vs. Bears Rushing Defense
Chicago had the 2nd best rushing defense in the 2010 – 2011 regular season, giving up just 90.1 rushing YPG. Seattle had the 31st ranked rushing attack this season and only average 89 YPG, but they exploded last week. Marshawn Lynch ran the ball 19 times for 131 yards and 1 TD while Justin Forsett ran the ball only 4 times, but gained 20 yards. It’ll be interesting to see if those RB’s can put up a fight against the Bears impressive front seven. If Seattle can run for over 100 yards, they could stay in the game right down to the very end.
Cutler vs Seahawks Secondary
Chicago only averaged 188.4 passing YPG this season, which was the 28th worst in the league. Cutler is going to need to improve upon that average this weekend if they want to beat the streaking Seahawks. With Johnny Knox, Devin Hester, Earl Bennett and Greg Olsen the Bears have tons of threats in the passing game. Seattle has the 27th worst passing defense in the league and the Bears should be able to take advantage of this weakness.
Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears Prediction
This game has the potential for a blowout if the Seahawks don’t show up to play this Sunday, but I have a feeling this is going to be closer than the 10-point spread suggests. I’ll be jumping on the Seahawks bandwagon this week and hope they don’t implode at Soldier Field. Seattle showed a lot of life on offense last week and although the Bears are a much better defense, they don’t score much. If Seattle can put 21-24 points on the board, that should be enough to cover the spread.
So, I’m taking Seattle +10 (-105) at BetOnline.com. If you prefer the Bears -10, you can get -105 at BetUS.com.
Over/Under Prediction
I don’t see a high scoring game here. I expect a final score in the 21-13 to 24-17 range, with the Bears winning. With the over/under at 43 at most online sportsbooks, I’ll be taking the under at Sportsbook.com. If you prefer the over, take it at BetOnline.com where you can get 42.5.
Prop Bets & Live Betting
For the best prop bets and live betting, we recommend the Bodog Sportsbook. They always have a wide selection of prop bets, plus the best live betting for NFL football. Live bets can be placed for as little as $1, with hundreds of bets available during the game. Cool stuff.
Seahawks & Bears 2011 NFL Playoff Road
Last weekend the Seattle Seahawks showed us that they can put up a lot of points when needed and they’ll need to try and match that effort this Sunday. Hasselbeck looked like the veteran he is, as he completed 22 of 35 passes for 272 yards and 4 TD’s. Lynch also added a TD last weekend and gained 131 yards on 19 carries, which was very impressive. Knocking off last year’s Superbowl champs in the 1st round of the playoffs should be a huge confidence booster for the Seahawks team heading into this game.
