Super Bowl Point Spread
In the chart below you’ll see the latest 2012 Super Bowl point spread from Sports Interaction.
I expect this to be a close game, and like the points we can get on the New York Giants. Don’t let the spread fool you, this should be closer to a pick’em game, but the books have shaded the line to create even betting on both sides. Of course the Patriots could cover the spread anyway, but the value right now is on the Giants.
2012 Super Bowl 46 Point Spread Prediction
Like most handicappers, I’m expecting a close Super Bowl 46. I’m predicting the New York Giants to win outright, so I also have them on the money line. Considering that I’m picking the Giants to win outright, I’m taking them on the point spread of +2.5 (-105) at Sports Interaction. You may want to take the extra 1/2 point and get the push on a field goal, but I’d rather pay -105 and take my chances.
The Giants defense has been so good in the last several weeks that you have to figure the Giants to at least keep it close. Getting the points, I’m all over this one.
As mentioned above, the Super Bowl point spread should probably be much closer to a pick’em. To create even betting, the books have the Patriots favored by 2.5 to 3 points right now. Getting the Giants and the points is where I’m seeing the value.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the 2011 Super Bowl teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers. After winning it in 2006 & 2008, the Steelers have more recent Super Bowl experience than the Packers, but Rodgers and the rest of the team have been playing great in the 2010 – 2011 playoffs. Just a few days away now, it’s time to pick our team and get the bets in.

2011 Super Bowl 45 Prediction
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a small advantage on defense and the Packers have the advantage on offense, so it should be a great game between two deserving teams. By looking at the defenses you’d expect a low scoring Super Bowl this year, but that isn’t always the case when two good defenses go up against each other. Aaron Rodgers shouldn’t have too much trouble moving the ball through the air against the Steelers, and the Steelers defense will need to put a lot of pressure on Rodgers, forcing him into quick decisions.
Both defenses allowed an average of just 15 PPG or less throughout the regular season, but I have a feeling that both teams will score in the 20’s this Sunday. Big Ben has the ability to go deep with Mike Wallace and Hines Ward, but it won’t be easy against the Packers secondary because they’re very tough to beat deep. Mendenhall will need to have a big game on the ground in order to open more space through the air. I don’t see the Packers developing much of a running game against the Steelers, although James Starks has done great throughout the 2011 playoffs when he’s needed too.
Neither team is spectacular at returning kick-offs or punts so there should be a lot of long fields to work with. This type of game gives the Packers an advantage, as they’re a passing team before a running team, unlike the Steelers who like to mix up the run and pass more often.
For Super Bowl 45, I’m taking the Packers -3 (even) to cover the point spread this Sunday.
