Oklahoma City Thunder vs San Antonio Spurs Game Preview
Oklahoma City Thunder (22-11 before Fridays game vs Atlanta)
With speed, quickness and versatility, the 22 year old Durant is a superstar already. He’s scoring a league leading 28.1 points per game plus 6.4 boards and 3.1 assists. Defensively, he continues to improve. Coach Scott Brooks has Durant on the floor 39.1 minutes a contest but, when you’ve got the best horse, why not ride him?
Durant’s supporting cast is inconsistent. The Thunder have been up and down and struggled to get run of wins put together. They are 7-3 in their last ten (prior to the game vs. Atlanta) and lost to the Spurs by 13 earlier in the year. The cast with Durant, forward Jeff Green (16.3 ppg), and guard James Harden (10.6 ppg) need to be more creative with their shots. Point guard Russell Westbrook has been scoring an average of 22.3 per game and distributing 8.1 assists, but has not been able to consistently run the offense. The Thunder rank 26th in the league in assists. They also need to do a better job rebounding and taking care of the ball. They average about 14 turnovers per game. Oklahoma City ranks 6th in the league in scoring average but 21st in points allowed.
San Antonio Spurs (28-4)
For the San Antonio Spurs, Tim Duncan is still the man although he is not the leading scorer anymore; that job has fallen to Manu Ginobili. The slashing forward has been tougher inside and still deadly outside, accounting for nearly 20 points a game.
Coach Gregg Popovich’s club has five options on the floor at time. Duncan, Ginobili plus George Hill, Gary Neal and James Anderson are potential scorers. Add in streaky point guard Tony Parker who is scoring at a career-high .381 percent and the Spurs have few offensive weak spots. And by the way, add in forward Richard Jefferson who is averaging almost 45% from beyond the three point line and you can see why the Spurs have only lost 4 games to date.

Oklahoma City may start fast as Durant could put on a show, but in the end it is too much San Antonio and the Spurs will win. Once the sportsbooks announce the point spread, we’ll pick a side for betting on this game.
