UFC 121 Betting Lines
UFC 121 will take place this Saturday, October 23rd at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. There are a few huge fights being featured including the heavyweight championship between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez. Most of the fights at UFC 121 are even match-ups and the betting lines released by the online sports betting sites verify this. In a sport that typically requires bettors to lay heavy juice on the favorites, this event has 3 favorites with odds under –200. Let’s take a look at the latest UFC betting lines from the Bodog Sportsbook:
UFC 121: Cain Velasquez +120 vs. Brock Lesnar –140
In the Main Event of the evening, Cain Velasquez will take on Brock Lesnar for the Heavyweight Championship. Lesnar has proven to be an extremely fierce opponent, but Velasquez is no slouch by any means. I’m personally going with the underdog in this fight because I don’t think Lesnar will be able to keep Cain on the ground. Brock wins by grounding and pounding his opponents, but he hasn’t faced anyone with the wrestling defense that Velasquez possesses.
UFC 121: Diego Sanchez –105 vs. Paulo Thiago –115
Diego Sanchez has the tools to win this fight on Saturday, but you can’t rule out Paulo Thiago. Thiago has knockout power and it’s widely known that Diego puts himself into danger at times. If Sanchez can have a perfect fight and avoid any mistakes that leave him open for a knockout then this fight should go the wire. I don’t expect Sanchez to knock out or submit Thiago in this fight and the best way for Sanchez to win is by decision. My money is on Thiago in this fight and with the small amount of juice I need to risk on the wager I’m very happy with this bet.
UFC 121: Tito Ortiz +140 vs. Matt Hamill –160
Tito Ortiz is a legendary name in the UFC and for good reason, as he was a dominating force in the sport years ago. Over the past few years, Ortiz hasn’t been able to win a fight and he’s also been dealing with a lot of injuries. His age has a lot to do with all of the injuries and I can’t see how he’s going to be able to beat the much younger and more athletic Matt Hamill. Hamill is a much better wrestler and he also has knockout power, which is proven by his six knockout victories. If Ortiz loses this fight I wouldn’t expect to see him fighting in the UFC again.
UFC 121: Martin Kampmann +190 vs. Jake Shields –230
If you’re looking for a slightly easier fight to bet on then you may want to look into Jake Shields more. Shields is a heavy favorite and I’m confident that he’ll be able to earn the victory against Kampmann. This is the first fight in the UFC for Shields since moving over from StrikeForce, but he shouldn’t have any problem defeating Kampmann. Jake is an excellent fighter on the ground and you won’t need to worry about him standing up in this fight. Jake will look for the early knockdown and it shouldn’t take long to finish off Kampmann.
